Theories of Architecture and Urbanism

Synopsis: Interpreting Architecture

In this assignment, we were to form a group of four and discussed about an article given. In the end, we had to summarise the article and form a few helpful points to let others understand more about the article by presenting it to the class.

I was chosen to present the fourth synopsis which was about radical electicism.

These are the synopsis presented by the rest:

Synopsis 2:

Synopsis 3:

Project Part 1  Analysing Self

This project was divided into two parts. In the first part of the project, I had to select a defined area of a city which was Kuala Lumpur City Centre in this case. Then applied a theory related to urban design to the area selected. As a group, we have to analyse and interpret the place by imagining how the architect may think.

Project Part 2  Analysing and Theorizing Architecture

In part 2, we had to further explained the theory chosen by adding diagrams and short reflective text of 500 words.

Project Part 3  Analysis Diagram & Essay (2000 words)

I had selected a building within KLCC area which was G-Tower. Based on the theory double-functioning element, I had analysed three factors that were related to the theory - dual expression, deceiving appearance and dual function. Diagrams were also drawn to help to understanding the analysis.

Below are the diagrams:

Reflection:
Throughout the whole project, I had learned a lot about the theory Complexity and Contradiction in Architecture. I analysed the theory and applied it to the building I had chosen based on my own observation and understanding of the place and its surrounding.
